OVERTAKE DAVCS Cam Solenoid Heat Shield - Subaru 2008-2021 STI

The OVERTAKE DAVCS Cam Solenoid Heat Shield puts a 1.5mm 304 stainless steel barrier between an aftermarket header and the exhaust AVCS solenoid and cam sensor wiring on the 2008-2021 Subaru STI. It bolts to two factory mounting points with the hardware already on the car, and a pre-cut gold heat reflective barrier layers over the stainless for a second line of defense.

You put a header on your STI and picked up a problem nobody mentioned in the install video: there is nothing protecting the AVCS wiring from the heat off your header.

The factory header carries its own built-in shielding, and on a stock car it does the job for the right-hand exhaust AVCS solenoid and cam sensor connectors sitting above it. The small shroud Subaru puts over those connectors is ABS plastic and was designed to keep road debris off, not heat. Swap to an aftermarket header and the shielding leaves with it, so that shroud becomes the only thing between a thin wiring harness and the hottest section of your exhaust. In many cases it simply melts, which is why we built the OVERTAKE DAVCS Cam Solenoid Heat Shield for the 2008-2021 STI.

Our shield rebuilds the thermal barrier the header install took away, then adds a layer the factory never had:

The Details:

The 2008-2021 STI runs Dual AVCS, and the right-hand exhaust AVCS solenoid and cam sensor connectors sit right above the header on that side. Subaru relied on shielding built into the factory header to manage that heat, so the ABS cover over the connectors only ever had to handle splash and road debris. Aftermarket headers do not carry that shielding, and the harness ends up over the hottest section of the exhaust with a plastic cover that was never meant for it. We formed 1.5mm 304 stainless into a shield that closes off that pocket and creates a separate thermal chamber between the header and the electronics, then added a pre-cut gold reflective barrier that follows every contour of the steel. Mounting reuses two factory points and the factory bolts, and the brushed finish and raised logo match the OVERTAKE Turbo Heatshield if you already run one on your EJ. If your header is already on the car, you can usually slip the shield into place from below the frame rail and secure it, so there is no pulling exhaust to install it.
